The first modern car was built in Stuttgart, Germany. Of course it has nothing to do with what is seen today as a modern car, but in 1886 Karl Benz patented the vehicle with a gas engine and three wheels which is regarded as the birth certificate of the current car. In this museum one can be guided in 125 years of automotive history. The building of course is modern but in it one can see the oldest surviving Mercedes in the world. The Mercedes Simplec was a model of 1902. It had 40 horsepower and belonged to the American billionaire William K Vanderbilt.
