Mercedes will not produce cars smaller and of lower segment of the Class A (C-segment), at least in the short to medium term. To affirm this statement was the CEO of Daimler, Dieter Zetsche, who in an interview with Autocar magazine, on the occasion of the Frankfurt Motor Show, 2013, answered questions on the possible debut of a new city car with front wheel drive, capable for price and size to fit between the current Class A (4,292 mm long) and the future Smart ForFour (3,500 mm) and to compete with the Mini and Audi A1.
“It seems clear that there is an opportunity and space for a new city car license plate for Mercedes. A car like that would give us no doubt in interesting sales volumes, but at the same time it would also be difficult, with a model of this type, making significant profits “. The German manager during the interview pointed that out by saying that: “For the moment I do not see the need to explore the segment of small cars.”
Zetsche also added that the platform modular MFA FWD could be born a fifth model, which would add to the current Class A, Class B, CLA and GLA. Even if the CEO of the German company did not specify what will be the future model, the rumors speak of a possible debut of CLA in Shooting Brake version.
