The proposal of a city SUV that will join the new small versatile B-MAX, the popular Fiesta and new Tourneo Courier, was presented recently by Ford. This EcoSport SUV model offers the ideal combination of agility, affordability and economic consumption of a small car with the spaciousness and flexibility that the customers expect from an SUV, a smart and connected package. The EcoSport is the first SUV in the world available with a 1.0 lt engine and it is the first Ford in Europe with Ford SYNC with AppLink, which allows drivers to vocal control smartphone applications, without being distracted from the road or to remove their hands off the wheel. Engineers and designers of Ford of more than 16 countries collaborated on the new EcoSport, which is manufactured in the USA and comes at a time of growing demand for SUV’s in Europe. Ford estimates that in the period 2013 – 2018, all sales of SUV in Europe will increase by 22% and sales of small SUV, like the EcoSport, will increase by 90%. The EcoSport, its first global SUV of Ford, stylish and practical, with a short hood, sloping front pillars and a distinctive grille of five sections with angled headlamps and characteristic LED light strips.

The EcoSport is available with 17 inch alloy wheels, silver roof rails, electric mirrors and fog lamps with chrome plated frame, designed with attention to detail. For example, the opening lid is built into the rear right light in an aesthetic harmony with the left rear light, while the site is high up and helps it to stay clean during travelling. With a full size spare tire on the rear door, the luggage compartment capacity of the EcoSport competes with many medium sized family cars as it has up to 375 L when the rear seats are in place, depending on their inclination. The EcoSport offers an elevated driving position with adjustable height for the driver’s seat and steering column, respectively, for both rake and reach. There are 20 smart storage solutions such as space for door pockets for storing bottles half liter drawer under the passenger seat and an air conditioned glove compartment that can fit up to six cans of 350 ml. The new EcoSport is offered by the award winning turbocharged 1.0 EcoBoost engine. This particular engine consumes 5.3 lt/100 km in mixed driving while the CO2 emissions value is 125 g/km. The EcoSport is also available with petrol 1.5 L 112 PS and consumes 6.3 lt/100 km with CO2 emissions of 149 g/km when combined with the 5 speed manual transmission.

With the flexibility and capabilities of the EcoSport it can withstand the toughest road conditions, whether it is narrow and difficult rural winding roads on routes with potholes or tall city curbs. The turning circle of 10,6 m is among the best in class, and the EcoSport, which is fitted with front and rear protective aprons, has 200 mm ground clearance. The Ford SYNC connectivity system will allow owners to activate voice calls and choose music from devices connected via Bluetooth or USB. Thanks to the Ford SYNC with AppLink the owners will be the first Ford drivers that will enjoy with voice control applications such as top player music services, the navigation system TomTom with audio instructions and a map display.

The Ford SYNC Emergency Assistance will directly connect the vehicle occupants with local emergency service centers in the local language after an accident. The EcoSport will also include the Hill Start Assist, Cruise Control, automatic wipers and headlights and rear parking sensors. Among with the security systems there are also included: Traction Control, Electronic Stability Program, Anti-Lock Brakes, Electronic Brake, Force Distribution and Emergency Brake Assist. Finally, the EcoSport is equipped with tire pressure monitoring system and Index and Passenger airbag deactivation.
