Under the hood of the Opel Adam debuts the new 1.0 liter, 3 cylinder turbo engine of the company’s new engine range. According to official announcements, this is the first out of seventeen all new engines which are expected to be launched by Opel between now until 2018.
With a capacity of 1,000 cc, 3 cylinder, exhaust gas turbocharger and direct injection, the new powerplant, which cooperates with a novel and compact in dimensions 6 speed gearbox, has both civilized operation as well as very low consumption and is available in two power versions, with 90 and 115 horsepower.
Both meet the Euro 6 emissions standard, yielding an impressive torque of 170 Nm from just 1,800 rpm, while in regard to consumption, the adoption of 90 horses requires for each 100 km only 4.2 liters and the petrol of 115hp needs 4.9 liters/100 km. The corresponding values for the higher consumption by 15 mm. Adam Rocks are measured at 4.5 and 5.1 liters/100 km.
In regards to the performance offered by the new Ecotec of Opel, which indeed does not differ between the two models, it is worth pausing at the 180 and 196 km/hour of top speed, and to just 11.9 and 9.9 seconds for the race to reach from stop to the first 100 km per hour.
In regards to the technological profile of the engine beyond the direct injection system, stand out the continuously variable valve timing, the built-in cylinder head exhaust manifold, and the balance shaft in the sump, which is a world first for the 3 cylinder engine.
The sales prices of the Opel Adam and Adam Rocks with the new Ecotec 1.0 lt. engine start respectively from 15,000 to 16,000 euros.
