BMW announced that starting in June, the first deliveries of the new i8, while the plug in hybrid model goes into mass production with new improved performance and fuel consumptions. At the BMW plant in Leipzig will begin in April mass production of the new sports hybrid plug in model, i8, and since the autumn of 2013 are pre orders for this model in all major markets. Moreover, the Bavarian marque has confirmed that in June will start the first deliveries of the new i8 while there will be several events and events for the upcoming model, whose demand, according to company sources outdoes the original design. Another critical factor is the new improvement in key indicators of performance and fuel consumption, achieved by the engineers of BMW, regarding the new i8. So, thanks to the philosophy of plug in hybrid structure eDrive, the i8 combines acceleration 0-100 km/hr in 4.4 seconds, with average fuel consumption in the EU test cycle of 2.1 lt/100 km and CO2 emissions 49 g/km. At the same time, the relative power consumption measured at 11.9 kWh per 100 km.
It is worth mentioning how the new BMW i8 shows good performance not only on standardized test procedures but also in everyday traffic conditions, according to the people of the company as on normal daily routes, with the battery fully charged at the outset, that model of 362 hp, can consume less than 5 lt/100 km. However, as the class of hybrid models, if the route includes driving out of town or on the highway, eating is below 7 liters. Even when traveling longer distances at higher speeds, drivers can ensure average consumption not exceeding 8 lt/100 km, the price is very low if we think that the i8 delivers 362 horsepower combined. Overall, consumption of plug in hybrid model, as indicated by the BMW, is about 50% better than the sports cars with a conventional drivetrain. Additionally, the launch laser headlight BMW planned for this autumn and the BMW i8 will be the first production car to offer this lighting technology.
The laser projector is about 30% more energy efficient than standard LED headlights of the BMW i8 and provide stronger illumination on the road with a range up to 600 meters. More specifically, dense beams of high performance laser diodes fall into reflective surface with phosphorus in the projector, projecting a focused beam of light on the road. The laser headlights produce a light similar to natural daylight and does not visually overwhelm. At the same time, it should be noted that the new i8 in all electric mode, has a top speed of 120 km/hr and autonomy of 37 km, while emitting zero pollutants found in the European test program. Depending on the source of recharge lithium ion battery household electrical socket, wall mounted panel BMW i Wallbox, or a public charging station charging times vary from two to three hours. Finally, in Sport mode the BMW i8 offers in motion acceleration 80-120 km/hr in 2.6 seconds. Note that the electronically controlled top speed limited to 250 km/h.
