The next big thing of Porsche happens to be the smaller. Leaving knocked out its genuine coupe cars and after the incredible commercial success of the Cayenne and Panamera, it’s time for a more compact standard model of the brand with five doors, a spacious living room and trunk that has ever been created by Porsche. Speed, precision, comfort, usability and off-road capabilities in the smallest possible dimensions. The Macan has a length close to 4.7 meters with a huge wheelbase of 2.8 meters that has a balanced hand just like the Cayenne but with less volume and lower surfaces to manage compared to the large bodies of other models, so any design choice is measured with substance and meaning.
The Porsche itself, argues that the Macan is a genuine in appearance, and not only, sportscar. Another Porsche, a little more strict with clean geometric shapes, lines and edges, and a variation on the theme, high mounted to the longitudinal linear console running between the seats to fit what has incorporated the firm in terms of technology. The rooms are adequate although the low height of the cab gives a feeling of a coupe. The modular MLB platform (Modular Longitudinal Matrix) was the base of the Macan. For three years engineers struggled to marry the genes of an Audi Q5 with a 911. The company has invested hundreds of millions, placing sophisticated engines, four wheel drive systems, components and it is modified electronically.
More than two thirds of the Q5 is different or modified. Two V6 full aluminum engines of 3.6 liters for the Turbo and 3.0 liters for the «S» to yield 400 and 340 horsepower respectively, both Biturbo. There was also another diesel V6 engine of 3 liters with a cast iron block of 258 hp performance. All three are found in the families of the Cayenne and Panamera with modified features and sophisticated thermal management of the engine.
The basic Macan S carries many standard things that make life a little more fast. AWD system with Torque On Demand of Magna, 3 programs interfere with the traffic management of the engine and transmission, electromechanical steering rack, and a plurality of electronic predominant with the Porsche Traction Management borrowed from the 911 Carrera 4 and Porsche Stability Management. The list of optional systems is long and unique in its class. Note: the air suspension, Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus, electronically controlled rear differential lock of ZF, Porsche Active Suspension Management and Sport Chrono Pack. The Porsche once again provides the ideal combination of chassis for each type of Macan. In all models, the suspension is classic double wishbone front and rear, while it is optionally available with the Porsche Active Suspension Management, the electronically controlled suspension. For the more serious level drivers and deposits there is an optional air suspension.
How does this car get from 0-100 in 6 seconds and can wear a Chrono Pack and cushioned moving off road with such confidence, without a trace of distortion or harshness and without stopping a single moment is something that can’t be explained. Given the promise of the company for the off road capabilities of the Macan, we have a serious off roader.
