Fiat faces east and is showing some interest to Russia, whose automobile market is accredited to become the first in Europe by 2020, at least according to some estimates.
The Russian press wrote this morning that Fiat group has signed a preliminary agreement with Renault and three MosavtoZil, a subsidiary of Zil who shall take the production of vans at its factory in Moscow.
Purpose of the agreement would be in the land of the production of the Fiat Ducato Dostoevsky, whose production is expected to begin in the first months of next year on the same assembly lines that will be built the Renault Master, for a production volume of 50,000 vehicles on an annual basis equally divided between the Italian and the French manufacturer.
After the signing of the preliminary agreement it should be finalized in a few weeks at most, as explained by the general manager of MosavtoZil, Igor Kulgan:” We are conducting the negotiations, but it is premature to speak of an agreement for the moment. We will announce everything in September, probably at the end of August”.
With the interest of Fiat and Renault, Russia continues to attract foreign investment for the production of cars and commercial vehicles, following up on what has been done previously by manufacturers such as Ford, Mercedes and PSA Peugeot Citroen, as well as being present on that market in collaboration with Mitsubishi – which recently had initiated talks with its Zil for the assembly of some vans.
