I was built on the basis of Mercedes M-Class, revised and amended to meet the Holy Father. It has a white and pearl color with many technologies inside.
Since last week, on the occasion of the celebration of the Immaculate Conception in Piazza di Spagna in Rome, Pope Benedict XVI received a new Popecar, in order to move around the city. Its a Mercedes M-Class, as amended, and with a special display to allow the Pope to be close to the people he meets during his apostolic journeys in complete safety and comfort.
The body is as usual, white (pearl) and the car is a total of a few centimeters lower than the previous Popecar, to allow easier air transport. Inside, there are many innovative technologies to improve the efficiency of the air conditioning and lighting, as well as to facilitate communication between the driver and the rear dome, where is seated the Pontiff.
Powered by unleaded petrol, the new Popecar was designed in one year and served about nine months to adapt the car to the needs of the Holy Father. It has been more than 80 years that continues this special partnership between the German and the Vatican and all the used cars are located in the museums of the State of Vatican City and Mercedes-Benz in Stuttgart.
