New BlueTec Euro 6 engines, on-board electronics to-date, 7-speed automatic transmission, revised exterior design are some of the add-ons of the car. Here, in a nutshell, the identity card of the new Mercedes Sprinter’ commercial vehicle symbol of the three-pointed star, which in these days we announced a major updating, waiting for the ordinations – scheduled for June – and the first deliveries , which will begin in September.
At the level of the car body (where the ride height has been lowered slightly to allow easy loading and unloading), the new Mercedes Sprinter continues the path towards the range of light commercial vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes to design more automotive cars (in particular with regard to the shape of the bumper), a concept that has now taken up by most of the manufacturers, at the same time, the identity of the family Mercedes Trucks is resumed, and reinforced by the headlights which are larger than previous models and design more vertical to horizontal elements of the perforated grille to further improve the air flow to the radiator. The interior has been updated with new interior design and new fabrics for the seats and Bluetooth hands-free system and navigation system Becker Map series.
Under the hood, the new Sprinter has two turbodiesel engines with 4 and 6 cylinder engine that develop a power range between 95 and 190 hp, coupled to a 6-speed manual gearbox or, on request, the automatic G Tronic – Plus 7-speed. The main novelty, level powertrain, is given the Euro 6 homologation for all units, obtained thanks to the adoption of the SCR catalytic reduction system which injects the AdBlue in the gas exhaust. As an alternative to diesel, there is a 4-cylinder 1.8 petrol, turbocharged, direct injection, also Euro 6 which is proposed in a natural gas version.
Equally interesting from the point of view of technological developments, is the on board electronic equipment: already at the forefront in this respect, the new Mercedes Sprinter is equipped as standard with the Crosswind Assist (planned as an extension of the ESP), a driver assistance device that keeps the trajectory of the vehicle in case of strong crosswinds, presented at the recent TecForum 2013. Further amenities can be obtainable on request, to signal the Collision Prevention Assist, Blind Spot Assist, the system glare Highbeam Assist and Lane Keeping Assist which prevents the involuntary exit from its lane.
